Itinerary
After boarding our coach our first stop is in Gympie, the town that saved the Queensland Treasury when gold was discovered in 1867. Learn more about the diggings over morning tea and then relax and enjoy the country views through the South Burnett en-route to the village of Moffatdale for lunch. We then travel on to Kingaroy for a guided tour of the area, visit the iconic Peanut Van, which has been dispensing the finest nuts since 1969, and settle in at the Burke & Wills Motel in the heart of the town for the night.
1 night | Burke & Wills – Kingaroy
Morning tea | lunch | dinner at motel
Heading out of town, we stop at the heritage listed Taabinga Homestead for morning tea and a tour of one of Queensland’s oldest continually occupied homes and its extensive gardens. Built in 1846, it is still a working cattle property, its outbuildings giving a glimpse of times past. The road then climbs into the Bunya Mountains for lunch at Poppies on the Hill overlooking ancient rainforest. Rest and cool off with a dip in the pool at the elegant Manor Motor Inn in Dalby before dinner at Squires Bar and Restaurant.
1 Night | Manor Motor Inn, Dalby
M/Tea | Breakfast and dinner at motel | lunch-Bunya Mtns
Today we cruise through the countryside over the famous Jimbour Plains, an area where early explorers opened up land for pastoral settlement, leading to the Darling Downs expanding into a busy and fashionable rival to Brisbane.
The gracious Jimbour, a heritage-listed homestead with magnificent gardens, served one of the first stations established on the Darling Downs. The station was settled in 1841 and the homestead followed in 1876. A guided tour brings to life its rich and colourful past and is followed by Devonshire tea in the gardens.
Leaving Jimbour, we visit Highfields for lunch before arriving in Toowoomba for our last night.
1 Night | Burke & Wills Toowoomba
Breakfast at motel | M/Tea | lunch | dinner at motel
It’s time to head for home. Morning tea is at Lake Wivenhoe, the largest lake in South-East Queensland and then it’s on past the Somerset Dam via Kilcoy to the magnificent Mount Mee Ranges for lunch. We then continue our journey to arrive back home after an enjoyable break.
